Home!!

Today we came home.  All of us.  Our family :)

It took forever to leave the hospital.  And turns out we snuck out before I watched a dvd required for discharge, but I know that you shake martinis, not babies, so I think we are fine.  And of course you don't drink martinis when breast feeding, unless you have a freezer full of expressed breast milk because your hobby in the NICU was pumping (thus leading to an oversupply and a new hobby- a constant battle against engorgement, blocked ducts and the looming threat of mastitis).

So I will try to bang out a few posts to catch up tomorrow or the next day.  Not tonight.  It is nearly 1am and the next feed is sometime between 3 and 4 am, or whenever bubs demands, and in the meantime, I should manually express a bit before I burst.  Or sleep and chance it.

But really quick.  The cats.  Cleo took a sniff and decided to go on with her life as before.  Toffs has been much more curious, and also surprisingly brave.  She was the first to come check out Bubs.  Neither one has gotten too close but they no longer look concerned when she fusses or cries (things she generally only does when a nappy change is imminent.

  1. Congratulations on coming home! Boobs really do rule your life the first few weeks. It's great you have lots of milk although I hope your supply balances out soon. Although that freezer stash sounds so awesome! Glad to hear Bubs and the cats are doing well and hope you get some rest. It's a beautiful life.

  2. So glad your furbabies are doing great with your human one! (And I'm jealous about your oversupply. I'm terrified I won't be able to breastfeed.)

    1. Breastfeeding is hard, and it is easy to get down about it, even with a good supply. Some days Bubs doesn't seem to latch well or feed enough and she gets hangry and piranha like, and I worry that I don't have enough of a supply. Or my let down is too much for her and she becomes terrified of the boob (her "oh my god get that outta my face!" look is hilarious though). I give her expressed breast milk through a bottle when I need a break, and so far no nipple confusion. Sometimes I think it would be easier to just bottle feed, but formula is expensive and I don't want to buy a pump. I am terrified about mastitis. I've had some painful blocked ducts but thankfully no infection yet. Fingers crossed!

I held a screaming bubs down near Toffs today, which sent her running which freaked out Cleo! I felt a little bad, but I still laughed, and told Toffs that's what she gets for peeing on me when I went to express her bladder! Pay backs!!
